Gay Czechoslovakian coin?

 Its the Brokeback Mountain coin :haha:

This old silver 20 Korun coin from Czechoslovakia has an unusual design. The coin shows a topless beefy construction worker and a farmer, staring lovingly into each others eyes while holding hands with a naked young man. The design is supposed to symbolize industry, agriculture and business - but at first glance one might easily get other ideas. The reverse of the coin shows the Czechoslovakian arms. The coin is 34mm in diameter and contains .27 ounces of silver. It was issued only two years, 1933 and 1934, before it was discontinued.

Wow, yeah, that one looks really, really bad out of context.

FWIW, long ago men would hold hands in pictures to show they were brothers, there was nothing gay about it. If you look around at old war photos you will ocassional find perfectly manly soldiers from very famous wars holding hands. It wasn't homosexuality, they were just showing they served with their brothers.

But dang! That one really does come across wrong!

Seen one? Heck, I used to live with a pair! I've even been to a lesbian wedding!

It wasn't all that. Aside from two women who live together and getting married and all, it wasn't even that gay. Not like that flaming stuff you see on tv, it wasn't even a butch thing either. They were very ordinary women in every respect except sexual orientation and they weren't even sex hounds. You can debate good vs evil all day long, but it does seem that for the most part people are people...

I walked into a bar in Sarnia north of Detroit with a bunch of the guys to have a few after a tough day having a few at the rink. Bar was full of Eskimo lesbians.

The coin isn't gay.

Look at the date. They weren't promoting that sort of thing in 1933-34.

The coin is purely symbolic and has a Socialist message. It symbolizes the union of labour and farming in building up a strong healthy country.

The naked figure on the right is holding a CADUCEUS which is the symbol of the medical profession and here seems to stand for health and strength.

You guys have got it all wrong. Ancient Greek coins also depict naked male figures which stood for health, energy, vitality. Athletes at the ancient Greek Olympic games competed in the nude because, I guess, the naked body at a peak of physical fitness was an object of admiration.

If you want to interpret this coin as gay you would have to dismiss a very large part of Classical Graeco-Roman sculpture as gay.

And it isn't.
